    • The University Fellowship is the most prestigious award granted to a new Ph.D. student at the University of Toledo. To be considered for this award an applicant must possess an exceptional academic record and register for the first time as a graduate student for Fall 2020. The University Fellowship provides a stipend as defined by each academic graduate program, plus remission of instructional fees, the out-of-state surcharge, and general and other student fees. This fellowship may be renewed for up to three years for a total of four years of support provided the student maintains an outstanding academic record and makes significant progress toward the degree. Applicants should be full-time doctoral students. JD, PharmD, and MD students are not eligible. Acceptance by the program is required prior to award designation, and previous recipients of this award are not eligible. Application requirements are as follows:

      1. Transcripts from all institutions attended: All transcripts must be on file with the College of Graduate Studies by the application deadline.

      2. Three letters of recommendation: Letters of reference must be specific to the University Fellowship. The reference letters should:

      Indicate that the recommender has direct experience with the candidate.

      Cite specific examples of excellent work performed by the candidate in preparation for doctoral study.

      Connect the abilities of the candidate with the potential to succeed in doctoral studies.

      Identify attributes of the candidate qualifying them to receive a University Fellowship at The University of Toledo.

      Recommenders should use the form at for letter submission.  Be sure to provide this link, as well as your name, Rocket ID, birthdate, UT email address, and the name of the scholarship ( University Fellowship ) to your recommender. You will be notified when a letter is submitted on your behalf. Applicants who do not have three letters of recommendation submitted by the application deadline will be disqualified from consideration for a University Fellowship.
